A challenge
I took part in Darren Lathem’s “Retro Marine Challenge” in September ’23. You had to take a classic monopose Marine and paint it up. I didn’t want to do an obvious scheme, so started doing some digging. That’s when I came across Warmongers. Their scheme is pretty standout with bold part separation and looked like a fun challenge.

I actually painted in sub assemblies, which isn’t something I normally do. The old monopose models are only 3 parts though, and it lets you get to everywhere that way (without the joins being obvious). It’s a shame the bolter covers the aquilla so much though, that’s probably the nicest gem I’ll ever paint.

As they’re such an obscure chapter there was no way I was every going to get a waterslide decal for them, so freehand it is. I’m pretty comfortable doing this kind of thing freehand now anyway, so it’s more of a chance to show off.

It’s good fun using a lot of more modern techniques on an old model, and at this point he was looking pretty crisp.

Yeah, I half arsed the base.
